EXECUTIVE TEAM

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Students' Society strives to enrich the camaraderie and academic experience of all students in the discipline. We work diligently to organize on and off campus events for fundraising and team development, as well as technical panels and competitions to provide valuable knowledge on potential future careers. We also strive to enhance professor-student interaction by providing a medium for feedback on both ends.

We look forward to provide our students with the services that they may need. Learn more about what we do as a club by exploring our website. If you wish to be involved as a general volunteer or just to be in the loop, make sure to sign up for our monthly newsletter!

Jason Tao (he/him)

President

Hey! I'm Jason, and I'm the president of the CEESS. I'm going into my fifth and final year of civil engineering co-op. I am excited to work with all our team members on the Civil Club as we are all like-minded individuals who believe in improving our community, and promoting the professional and social development of students. I am an avid musician and classical pianist with my associate diploma in piano performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music. In the upcoming year, I hope to rebuild our community, organize meaningful events, and to provide the CEESS as a resource for our students every step of the way.

Hamiz Adil (he/him)

Vice President Technical

Hey everyone, I am currently the CO-VP Technical for the CEESS for the 2021-2022 academic year and am looking forward to all the events this upcoming year. This is my second year volunteering for the club, and I worked as an AVP Technical last year. The club has given many opportunities to the aspiring students of our university and I love being able to do as much as I can to provide young engineers with the tools to maximize their potential. For the upcoming year we, as a university, will be making the transition of returning events and academics to an in-person setting. As terrible as the pandemic was around the world, the club came up with many new events and methods to help students connect. My goal this upcoming year is to utilize the all the Pre-Pandemic work the club has done and combine it with what we learned this last year.

Hey! I am one of the VP’s for Communications for the club this year, alongside Bijan. I am in my third year of Civil and Environmental Engineering Co-op and am currently on a work term with the City of Edmonton. I am very excited to work with the other executive members to create a stronger, supportive and welcoming community for the Civil and Environmental engineering students as we transition back to “normal” life after the challenging year. When I am not drowning in schoolwork, I enjoy reading, writing poetry, doing yoga and painting.

Bijan Boroumand (he/him)

Vice President Communication

Hello, my name is Bijan Boroumand and I am one-half of the VP Communications team for CEESS alongside Mokshita, both of us specializing in Environmental Engineering. Since my first year I have maintained a passion for developing a sense of community among student engineers and supporting initiatives and events that improve mental health, especially during a difficult time such as the one we are currently enduring. I have an extensive volunteering past with the ESS, serving in positions such as Operations & GEER Week Coordinator and Director of Philanthropy, as well as community volunteering for environmental and charity organizations. I am currently on a work term with the Government of Canada, but still plan on going above and beyond the duties of my role as a VP, brainstorming new and fun ideas for helping us get through this pandemic together as a discipline and community!

Julia Rivait (she/her)

My goal is to create a fun and inclusive environment for everyone. I enjoy yoga, go-karting, painting and taking my cats for long walks on the leash.

Francesca Drummond (she/her)

Vice President Student Life

My name is Francesca and I am one of your Co-VPs of Student Life for this 2021/2022 academic year! I am extremely excited for this year with the Civil Club because we have such a unique opportunity to help re-connect students with each other and their education after having been at home and away from campus for such a long period of time. This will be my third year with the club and my second year being a Co-VP for SL with Madeline. I was born in Kelowna, BC and I love to play soccer and go for runs in the river valley and I have been singing since I was very young and completed multiple Royal Conservatory of Music vocal exams! This year I really hope to bring back the feeling of community to peoples lives that we have all been missing. I want students to remember that we as a club are still here and ready to provide both fun events and support to the students of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
