The Civil and Environmental Engineering Students' Society strives to enrich the camaraderie and academic experience of all students in the discipline. We work diligently to organize on and off campus events for fundraising and team development, as well as technical panels and competitions to provide valuable knowledge on potential future careers. We also strive to enhance professor-student interaction by providing a medium for feedback on both ends.

We look forward to provide our students with the services that they may need. Learn more about what we do as a club by exploring our website. If you wish to be involved as a general volunteer or just to be in the loop, make sure to sign up for our monthly newsletter!

Jake Kondor

I am your president! I am going into my last year of Civil Engineering Co-op and will be starting my masters in Structural or Geotechnical Engineering next year. Hopefully at the UofA! I mountain bike lots. Whenever weather permits, you KNOW you will catch me shredding the trails. I love the petrichor after it rains, the scenery that you see along the trials, and of course the work out! I used to be a nationally ranked rock climber in High school, now I am a mere has-been and do it recreationally. Finally, I love to crack open a cold one with the boys whenever I have the time. I am excited to lead the teams to achieve great things despite COVID-19 shutting everything down. I look forward to creating and changing our norm to accommodate the pandemic and having as much fun with it as possible.

Aline Ljubichich

Vice President Technical

Hello, my name is Aline and I am the co-Vice-President Technical (with Nina Cen) for the CEESS this year. I am happy to be part of civil club because I believe in the passionate, creative, and caring students in this club and their drive to make the University of Alberta Faculty of Engineering a little bit brighter. Through their work, I experience a real sense of community and I invite you to take part and find out what makes the UofA Civil Club so special. During my time volunteering for clubs in our faculty, I've made lots of unforgettable experiences and lasting friendships. My advice is: don't miss out on the fun, get involved, and come make some memories with us. In my spare time, I like to listen to bedroom lofi hip hop type beats on Soundcloud, dominate in Sid Meier's Civilization V, and get lost on seemingly straight-forward forest hikes.

Nina Cen

Vice President Technical

I'm going into my fourth year of environmental engineering, and this will be my second year as VP Technical. I'm currently spending copious amounts of time with my piano while I'm home in Calgary.

Lucas Janke

Vice President Communication

Hi! I'm in my final year of civil engineering and in the role of VP Communications with Rupert. This is my second year in this position and I'm looking forward to events like the Specialization Panel and the annual Popsicle Stick Bridge Competition. This year I want to continue to spread awareness of our events, increase participation, and create a sense of community within civil engineering at the University of Alberta.

Rupert Gomez

Vice President Communication

Hello! I'm Rupert Gomez and I'm on my 5th year of my Civil Co-op degree. I'm excited to work alongside Lucas as one of the Co-VP Communication for CEESS. Community development has always been my passion and joining student groups has helped me pursue that. I love taking cool pics and creating art and you can catch me jamming with friends in my spare time. Fun fact about me is that I've done a 4-month research internship in University of Auckland, New Zealand! Looking forward to connect and promote the faculty! We promise to provide you all with great events, services, and helpful resources.

Shaira Cruz

Vice President Operations and Finance

Hi, I'm Shaira, and I'm going into my 4th year of Civil Engineering. I'm this year's CEESS Co-VP Operations and Finance, and I served as the VP Student Life last year. I've also been doing biomedical engineering research on the side since October 2019, and my current project is on the 3D spinal reconstruction of patients with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS). During my spare time, I like to sketch, crochet, and play the guitar or ukulele.

Jason Tao

Vice President Operations and Finance

I'm in my fourth year of civil engineering and I serve as your co-VP Operations and Finance. I'm really passionate about music whether that may be listening to Spotify, playing piano, or rocking out on the drums! Bands I really enjoy listening to include: Arctic Monkeys, Arkells, Weezer, and The Killers (I listen to any genre to be honest, and I'm always open to new recommendations). When I'm not suffering from school (mostly never), I also like to go boulder, bike, or swim.

Fun Fact: I have a diploma in piano performance.

Franchesca Drummond

Vice President Student Life

My name is Francesca and I am one half of the VP Student Life position. This will be my second year in the CEESS, but my first year holding an executive position and I am so looking forward to what the year will bring! I am a very social person and can’t wait to create exciting activities and events for students to participate in and make them feel part of a fun and connected community of friends and peers. Madeline and I met in first year and are the closest of friends so we’re very ready to work together as a team and do our job as best we can! Some fun facts about me are that I have been singing since I was a little kid and have done multiple Royal Conservatory of Music exams, I love to run and play soccer, and I grew up in Kelowna B.C but lived in Spain for a couple months as well!

Madeline Barker

Vice President Student Life

I'm the other half of VP student life and am super excited to be taking on this role for the upcoming year! In my free time I love to play guitar, paint, and ski whenever possible. This year, we'll be working to keep a community within the civil and environmental engineering disciplines, despite whatever the pandemic throws at us.

Vivechana Acharya

Vice President Coordination

My name is Vivechana Acharya and I am going into my 4th year of Civil Engineering. I am one of the Vice President Coordinate of CEESS. I started with CEESS last year as a volunteer and I am excited to join the team this year as an executive member. As a VP Coordinator, I would love to see more involvement from all the students in Civil and Environmental discipline this year. More volunteers and greater participation always make our events such as GEER Week more successful and enjoyable.

Erika Hurl

Vice President Coordination

I am in my fourth year of the civil coop program. I love to do hands on learning (problematic with covid), I like to learn, and above all else I like to meet new people interested in similar topics. I went to MacEwan for first year so I get the difference between first and second year at a different school. Geer week is probably my favourite engineering event and I love The Corn maze too.
