I want to continue building on the systems and connections I developed as VP Technical Affairs. During my term, I have advocated for numerous initiatives and delivered on all but one previous campaign commitments. As President, I get to expand these efforts to make CEESS organized, connected, and full of opportunities for every civil and environmental engineering student!

FAITH LY
fly1@ualberta.ca | she/her

Hey everyone! I am a Vice President of Communications candidate for the Civil and Environmental Engineering Club, Faith Ly. I am a born and raised Edmontonian with a Viet-chinese (cantonese) background.
When I’m not busy studying (procrastinating) then I’m probably participating or volunteering with any organization or at any event (bonus if there is free food).
In the past I volunteered with APEGA’s Science Olympics, WISEST’s CHOICES conference, and last but not least, a website coordinator with the CEESS, so I am always one of the first people to know where to find free pizza (and when ice cream sandwiches are restocked).

As a member of the CEESS for nearly a year now, I have had the opportunity to meet many wonderful people, as well as observe and learn about the inner workings of the club, which brings me to my platform:
-
Improve communication between the different CEESS portfolios through consistent check-ins, forms, and meetings for better experiences inside and outside the club
-
Getting the word out more and earlier about joining the CEESS to encourage more people to join
-
Releasing the 2026-2027 calendar of CEESS events before the 2026 Fall term begins
-
Upcoming events posts at the beginning of each month on Instagram
-
Event recaps featuring photos and brief descriptions whenever possible
-
Getting unnamed-NREF-tree’s story out so it doesn’t succumb to the same fate as its sibling (also unnamed-NREF-tree).
-
Increasing social media engagement by LinkedIn maxing, Instagram story polls, and promoting playing Wordle through the official CEESS Discord
Overall, my goal is to create a stronger and more-connected community among the undergraduate Civil and Environmental Engineering club. And so, for the sake of the dying unnamed-NREF-tree (and everything else), please consider voting for me.

TRI NGUYEN
minhtri1@ualberta.ca| he/him

Hello everyone! For those who don’t know me yet, I’m Tri, a 3rd-year Environmental Engineering student who loves coffee, books, and food. This past year, I have had the privilege of serving as your Director of Finance for the CEESS, working behind the scenes with the Finance VPs to manage the club’s budget and connect with industry sponsors.
However, you would have also spotted me flipping pancakes during GEER week or stressing over deadlines around campus. Serving on the team has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and it has also motivated me to take on a larger role in supporting and growing our club. That is why I am excited to announce my candidacy for Vice President of Finance for 2026-2027.
My goals for the next school year are to reach out to more potential sponsors to grow the club’s budget, invest in the club’s facilities to renovate the Dirt Den and CEESS’ office, and enhance the student experience by increasing investment in social events.
I plan to work closely with other executives while actively gathering feedback from students and faculty staff to ensure my initiatives reflect the needs of the student body.
My priorities for this upcoming year will include:
-
Restructure and Diversify Sponsorships
-
Split the current sponsorships structure into two clear categories: general and event-specific sponsorships.
-
Contact potential food sponsors to allow for more diverse food options at events.
-
Coordinate with the VP of Internals to reach out to local businesses and bring in local snack options for the office store.
-
Reach out to more sponsors to increase club funding.
-
-
Work with VP Communications to create a Non-Industry Sponsorship Package, allowing outreach to potential sponsors outside the engineering industry
-
Coordinate with VP Internal to renovate the Dirt Den and club office.
-
Coordinate with VP Tech to manage the Civil & Environmental Technical Activities Fund (CETAF)
-
Create opportunities for students to go to civil & environmental engineering luncheon and dinner seminars.
-
-
Create a new fund for philanthropic events in coordination with VP Student Life to promote opportunities for students and the CEESS to give back to the community.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about my plan for next year through my email at minhtri1@ualberta.ca, message me through my campaign account, or catch me around in NREF or ETLC.

OWEN O'REILLY
ooreilly@ualberta.ca| he/him

As VP of Student Life I plan to host more volunteer outreach events and ensure all planning/registration of events are completed 3 weeks in advance.
Types of Events to be Planned: Volunteering events include an annual visit to the Stollery Children's Hospital to visit the school, working at the food bank, and possibly a visit to a Seniors home. This gives students the opportunity to add volunteer work to their resume and more importantly, serve as a way to give back to the Edmonton area and bring meaning beyond our academic achievements.
Another focus is on events that bring other disciplines and all years of engineering students together. These include movie nights, paint events, and parties that are advertised for all students. I intend to make most “fun” events to be very non-committal and easy going so that anyone is able to drop by even for a short while.
Planning Logistics: I will standardize a 3‑week minimum planning window for every event, giving us enough time to book spaces, confirm logistics, and advertise properly. This timeline will let the tech and communication teams consistently prepare strong promotional materials and ensure our events are visible on social media, in classrooms, and around campus well before they happen.
As a student living on my own, affordability is a major factor in the events I attend, and I aim to make all Student Life events low-cost or free. Being given an annual budget or approximation would allow for effective budgeting and long-term planning. Having low-cost events keeps events accessible and inclusive for everyone.

ABDULLAH KHAN
aak4@ualberta.ca | he/him

Hi everyone! My name is Abdullah Khan, and I’m a fourth year civil engineering student running for Vice President of Internal Affairs for CEESS. My goal as VP Internal Affairs is to create an organized, transparent, and welcoming environment that supports all Civil and Environmental Engineering students.

I’m passionate about ensuring CEESS operates smoothly behind the scenes so students can reliably access shared spaces, academic resources, and support throughout the year.
This includes maintaining the CEESS office and lounge, keeping essential resources such as snacks, office supplies, and the textbook and course notes library accessible to everyone, and improving the systems that help students navigate their program more easily.

As VP Internal Affairs, I plan on creating a Civil & Environmental Student Resource Hub that centralizes academic resources, program guidance, and key information in one accessible place. This hub would help reduce information gaps and make it easier for students to find the support and resources they need throughout their degree.
I also aim to strengthen communication and engagement through a clear, well-organized CEESS Discord that serves as a central hub for information, opportunities, and coordination across all academic years. By overseeing a fair, transparent, and equitable recruitment process, I want to ensure all students have an equal opportunity to get involved and that volunteers feel supported and valued in their roles.
Ultimately, my goal is to help build a CEESS that works in the background so every Civil and Environmental Engineering student feels informed, supported, and set up for success. Let’s make this a year where CEESS truly works for everyone!

JONAH CAMPBELL
jcampbe4@ualberta.ca| he/him

Hi fellow CIVEs and ENVEs! My name is Jonah. I’m a second-year Civil Co-op student and your current Director of Experiential Learning.
Since October, I’ve been working hard with the technical events team to provide value to students in our department through networking opportunities and industry-focused events.
When I’m not studying, you can find me volunteering at the GEER store or other student-led organizations, playing table tennis in the Dirt Den, and yapping in the Civil Club office.
Helping out with various initiatives has shown me just how vast and unique careers in civil and environmental engineering are, and I want other students to learn about these fields as well!
Therefore, I’m happy to announce that I’ll be running for VP Technical Events for next year.
My goal for the Technical portfolio next year is to help you take ownership of your professional development and explore a variety of career paths through three key areas:

-
Building a Structurally Sound Community
-
Invite project clubs to events to increase exposure, and allocate time for students to talk with the clubs
-
Promote other groups within the department, such as the Steel Centre and its specialized activities
-
-
Concrete Experience (Experiential Learning)
-
Continue the Popsicle Stick Bridge Competition and Case Competition to build technical and presentation skills
-
Modify Research Lunch & Learn to department lab tours to facilitate connection between professors, researchers, and undergraduate students
-
Modify our annual workshop by switching to a structural program like S-Frame
-
Organize a site visit for students to see how classroom principles are applied in real projects or processes
-
Help the NREF tree branch out with a platform to share facts about trees and timber structures
-
-
Professional Development
-
Continue with yearly events such as Hard Hat Ceremony, the Construction and Consulting Industry Mixer with the ESS, Specialization Panels, and Alumni Student Night
-
Promote the Canadian Society of Civil Engineers' monthly dinner presentations, which are great opportunities to network with other civil engineers and learn about topics in a variety of civil and environmental fields
-

Truss me, a lot is coming next year! If you have any questions about events or just want to chat, find me in NREF, or email me at jcampbe4@ualberta.ca!
