2024-2025 Executive Team

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Students' Society strives to enrich the camaraderie and academic experience of all students in the discipline. We work diligently to organize on- and off-campus events for fundraising and team development, as well as technical panels and competitions to provide valuable knowledge on career opportunities. We also strive to enhance professor-student interaction by providing a medium for feedback on both ends.

We look forward to providing our students with the services that they may need. Feel free to contact any of our executives below if you have any questions or concerns pertaining to their portfolio!

President

Vivien Cen

Hello, my name is Vivien (she/her), and I am in my 4th year of Civil. I started volunteering with CEESS as a GEER Week director because I wanted to step outside my comfort zone and meet others within the civil and environmental discipline. From there, I met some great individuals and loved the environment within CEESS. My goal this school year is to continue to foster the CEESS spirit and present students a variety of opportunities to get involved by working closely with the executive team. Why did I go into civil engineering? I have always been fascinated with the design and construction process of infrastructures and going into civil engineering made me realize there is so much more to just the idea of roads, bridges and buildings, like the structural integrity of lift points, spacing of rebar, grade and elevation of roads. The list goes on! When I am not studying, I like to relax at home and crochet or hangout with Zuko. If I am stuck at school, you can catch me sitting in the office. Feel free to swing by and say hi!!

Co VP Communications

Alexander Miguel Paradela

Hey everyone! I'm Alex (he/him), a 4th-year Civil Engineering student. One of the VP Communications this school year. I first got involved with CEESS as an assistant editor, where I worked on improving my communication, graphic design, and writing skills. It was a fantastic experience that helped me grow and connect with some awesome people who share my passion for engineering. Now, as an executive member, I’m excited to build on that experience, bring in new ideas, and contribute even more to our community. I’ve been into Civil Engineering ever since I was a kid. I used to watch those crazy top 10 mega-engineering videos on YouTube and get completely hooked. Seeing all those massive projects and large infrastructures got me curious about how they actually come together, and that curiosity turned into a real passion for the field. Now, I’m all in, especially interested in Water-Resources and Structural Engineering, and I’m looking forward to making a career out of it. In my free time, I enjoy going out with friends, staying fit, and playing video games. I also love karaoke nights, where I can let loose and have some fun. Here’s a random fact about me: I’ll often try to listen to a song and play it by ear on the guitar, even if it means driving everyone around me a little crazy as I search for the right notes! Looking forward to connecting with you all and contributing to our shared goals at CEESS!

Eon Piquero

IMG_20240827_144945_538.jpg

Hi! My name is Eon. My pronouns are she/her. I am a 4th year Civil Trad student and am one half of your VP Communications for this academic year. I am originally from the Philippines and moved to Canada when I was 14. I recently joined CEESS mostly out of curiosity. A friend of mine (read: my Co-VP) gently nudged me into running and I accepted because I’ve always wanted to help people and my peers and this was the perfect opportunity to do so. As to why I chose Civil, it was more of a ‘I had a good professor and now I’m trying to follow him’ type of situation. I loved Dr. Lobo and the way he thought really inspired and encouraged me to choose Civil Engineering. That and I love that Fnet is equal to zero MOST OF THE TIME for Civil. In my free time, my latest go-to hobby is crocheting. Other times it's baking or skiing, if it's winter time. Random facts - I love looking at nice photos BUT I'm terrible at taking them. - I am half deaf and sometimes half blind if I don't sleep well (you can tell if my right eye is red). So if you have any questions about accommodations, feel free to ask! Also, please don't be offended if I don't notice you. I swear I'm nice, I just have terrible sensory skills sometimes. - For the Genshin players, I will NOT accept the Qiqi slander and you can fight me on that. She's a great healer okay. Excited to serve you and connect with you this coming 24-25 school year!

VP Community Development

Nanziba Nawshin

Hello! I am Nanziba Nawshin (she/her) and I am originally from Calgary, AB. I am heading into my third year of civil and environmental engineering and will serve as the vice president of community development for this upcoming year. My interest in civil engineering began out of simple curiosity in the blueprints for the various infrastructure projects my father would work on. This led me down the path that I find myself in today. When I am not swamped in school work you can find me in the kitchen baking desserts or out with my friends trying the newest restaurants and cafes. When I am busy with school and find myself needing a break, I have found comfort through clubs as they have allowed me to enjoy school outside of academics. I initially joined the Civil Club to connect and meet with peers in our discipline. Through my experience I was able to make some great memories, more of which I hope to continue this year!

Co VP Finance

Nafisa Siddique

Hey there, I’m Nafisa (she/her)! I’m currently in my 3rd year of environmental engineering. I’m originally from Calgary and I moved here for university. This is my first time officially joining the CEESS and I’m really excited for this position, as I’ll get to connect with students in my discipline! Growing up, I loved the environment and building things, so these interests helped me pursue a degree in this. In my free time, I love to cook, go to the gym and watch tv shows. 1 cool fact about me, is that I’ve moved to 3 provinces and 10 different schools

Yosan Gebremeskel

Hi, my name is Yosan (she/her), and I am the Co-VP Finance of the CEESS. I am originally from Calgary, and am currently in my 4th and final year of Civil Engineering. Growing up I've always been into Architecture, and Civil Engineering seemed like the perfect fit for me to explore this interest. Outside academics, my favorite thing to do is to hang out with my friends and try new activities/ foods. We recently tried skiing, bungee jumping, and motorcycle riding. I'm excited to be a part of the CEESS and help students see that there's more to university life than just reading and cramming for exams. I’m committed to ensuring everyone feels included and connected :)

Co VP Internal Affairs

Charles De Ocampo

Hi my name is Charles (He/Him) and I'm currently in my third year of Civil Engineering! I will be serving as the other half of VP Internal Affairs dealing with things like merch and recruitment! I joined the club as I've always liked to involve myself in extracurriculars that I know I can benefit from during or after my time at the club, whether it's developing soft skills to making lifelong connections. Civil Engineering has been a life-long goal of mine as from a very young age as houses, buildings and structures in general has been a nice little curiosity of mine. Recently, I've developed a liking for using software to model/design houses and buildings which further fuels my motivation. During my free time, I like to hangout with my friends, grab something to eat or absolutely try my best at staying fit. Alongside that I also love playing video games when I'm not in school. Random fact about me: I have over 14000 hours on Skyrim I have an awesome dog by the name of Neptune A tip I would give new engineering students (or upper-year students) would be to make friends and plenty of them. Engineering is not an easy degree to do and friends make the load lighter and the concepts easier to grasp.

Immanuel Kasapu

Hello! My name is Immanuel Kasapu (He/Him), and I am going into my third year of civil engineering (co-op). I was born in Toronto, ON, but grew up in Edmonton. I joined the CEESS because I wanted to cultivate an inclusive and vibrant community where all student volunteers and participants feel empowered and engaged, fostering active involvement in CEESS events and ensuring club integrity through acts of service. From a young age, I’ve been fascinated by big machines and construction projects, varying from getting work experience with my dad to watching different projects around Canada. This strong interest has led me to choose civil engineering as a career, where I can be deeply involved in building impactful projects. I’m excited about the chance to help create lasting structures and a legacy in the civil engineering industry. When I'm not swamped in homework or labs, I like to spend my precious free time creating music or playing sports, like soccer or basketball, with friends. A random fact about me is that I've never traveled outside of North America before - something I hope to do once I've graduated. And here are a few tips on how to survive engineering: - Sleep is for the weak - Studying is only if you really need it - Find a good friend group who like nap time

UAAmbassadors2024-481 - Paola Becerra.jpg

Hello! My name is Paola Becerra (she/her), and I am in my 5th and final year of the civil-environmental engineering co-op program. I will also be VP of Technical Affairs for the upcoming academic year! I joined CEESS to share my enthusiasm for civil and environmental engineering and to bridge the gap between students and industry professionals. I chose civil-environmental engineering because of my interest in water resources and fascination with how different areas of civil engineering intersect with municipal planning. In my free time, I love sewing and altering clothes—it’s a great way for me to get creative. I’m also a big reader. My favorite genres are literary fiction and non-fiction (extra points if it critiques car dependency in urban planning!). Some random facts about me are that I’m skilled at reverse parking (do not make me park forward), I am passionate about meal prepping, and I have a cat named Marvin. When I'm not in school, you can catch me at the lake by the fire, on a wakeboard, or surfing. I love live music and hanging out with friends, so don't hesitate to reach out!
